明謝榛《四溟詩話》云:「凡作詩,悲歡皆由乎興,非興則造語弗工。」清吳雷發《說詩菅蒯》也說:「詩固以興之所至為妙。」清焦循《毛詩補疏序》云:「夫詩,溫柔敦厚者也。不質直言之而比興言之,不言理而言情,不務勝人而務感人。」今人南懷瑾先生在《論語別裁》中,便將「興」解釋為「排遣情感」。可見,把「興」看成藝術創造的真正動因,承認審美情感是審美對象的第一結構,並非個別見解。…

在儒家思想體系中,社會所需要的人就是遵守規范的人,忠君孝父。《禮記·經解》中說了孔子對詩、書、樂、易、禮、春秋六經之作用的看法:「其為人也溫柔敦厚,詩教也」,「故詩之失,愚」;「其為人也,溫柔敦厚而不愚,則深於詩者也」。這就是孔子詩教中所謂「思無邪」、「歸於正」之意。顯然,從「邇之事父,遠之事君」到「經夫婦,成孝敬,厚人倫,美教化,移風俗」,再到「為人溫柔敦厚而不愚」,孔子的「興觀群怨」論由全面的審美功能論走向了片面的工具論,導致了中華美學精神的一次資源浪費。
