維柯的思想組成了浪漫主義美學理論的基本部分。特別是當浪漫主義崇尚原始主義風，忠於自然，將神話和隱喻的想像以及強烈的情感作為其思想觀念的時候，維柯對於浪漫主義的貢獻就是前導性的而且源遠流長。

從文學批評的發展來看，雖然文學史上主體性批評由來已久，但在批評思想方面最大的推動力來自浪漫主義運動。如果我們承認維柯是浪漫主義美學的先驅之一，維柯的想像理論對促進文藝理論中創作主體性的強調和探討亦具有不可抹煞的功勞。

葉淑媛：維柯「詩性智慧」說與浪漫主義文學觀（8）

第一位偉大的浪漫主義詩人華茲華斯《抒情歌謠集》序言，在某種意義上是浪漫主義的一個宣言，可以歸結為一個總體的詩歌觀念，即「一切好詩都是強烈情感的自然流露」。其關鍵詞應該是情感、自然、天性，這一切都意味著對虛假的文雅和人為的杜撰，以及舍情感而矯揉造作的詩歌語言的拒斥，所以華茲華斯的理論植根於早期的尚古主義原則之中。在這一原則裏，可以看到濃郁的維柯色彩，它融會了18世紀關於語言的情感起源的研究和關於原始詩歌的本質和價值的流行觀念。這些研究和觀念可以看作是對維柯思想的衍發和闡釋。

華茲華斯還在這篇序言裏詳細論證了想像力之於詩歌的重要作用。他認為詩人寫詩的能力包含五種，「第四是想像和幻想，也是改變、創造和聯想的能力。」…

德國狂飆運動的領袖赫爾德更是維柯主義的繼承人和拓展者，他將語言劃分為原始民族語言和文明語言發展階段，並認為語言與詩歌都因情感驅使而自然起源，詩歌產生於原始情感的自然流溢的觀點，與維柯的思想有相通之處，赫爾德的觀點在德國浪漫主義一代人進行語言探討時成了一句套話。

此外，維柯在《新科學》中指出人具有群體性屬性，人創造了世界，在世界中尋找自己的歸屬。赫爾德發展了這個思想，提出從文化意義上去理解的「民族」這個概念，並探討民族性格和民族感情。關於民族性格與民族情感在詩歌中的表現。

赫爾德說：「一個民族越不開化，也就是越有生氣、越無拘無束，如果它有詩歌，那麼它的詩歌就必然會越粗野、越生動、越自由、越有直感、越充滿抒情意味!這個民族離人為的、科學的思想方法、語言和構詞方式越遠，這個民族的成熟的詩歌必然越不會成為死的雕琢字句的詩章。詩歌的本質、目的和全部創造奇跡的力量——這種創造力量能使一個民族產生充滿激情、推動力、永恒傳統和歡樂情緒的詩歌——」…
