五、史詩通神觀念的突破與中國軸心文明的誕生
春秋戰國時代,一方面是王權旁落,貴族世襲制的瓦解;另一方面則是士階層的崛起,人類理性精神的全面覺醒。在社會急劇變化的背景下,出現了人類文明發展史上的新突破。德國哲學家雅斯貝爾斯稱之為「軸心時期」。軸心文明的最大特點是人類精神思想上的「突破」,而「突破」的核心便是對原初文化的超越。
中國軸心文明的精神超越,在很重要的方面是體現在溝通神靈的適用范圍與對天人合一觀念的突破上。具體地說,在春秋戰國時期,「天人合一」觀念的變化體現在由上層貴族普及到下層士民、由集體意識轉化為個人意識。這其中最典型的例子見於《莊子·人間世》中莊子借孔子弟子顏回說出的一段話:…

先說《天問》。五帝三代宗教王官時代,各民族史詩只敘其本民族的歷史,且嚴格限定在本族內世代相傳。而《天問》所敘,除在篇末敘楚本族歷史外,主體部分則以大量篇幅敘虞、夏、商、周及吳、秦歷史,這在文化史上是一種新現象。這一新現象在楚國出現,在屈原筆下出現,決不是偶然的。戰國時代,王官史詩賴以生存的血緣管理結構早已散體,原來主持宗教祭祀並吟唱史詩的周王室祭司及各諸侯國祭司都開始離開其本族國而四處奔命,各族史詩也就失去了其原有的神聖性而流散各地,從而出現了各族國精英文化廣泛交流與融合的新局面。這樣,時代條件成就了《天問》能夠綜合虞、夏、商、周、吳、秦、楚等族史詩而融為一體,從而使《天問》成為中國文化史上的千古奇篇鴻文。…
