每次餐畢，我自去泉邊洗凈，藏好。臨走的那晚，我用棉紙包了，放在枕邊。不料清晨被催起後頭昏昏地盡呆看眾人忙碌，忘記將那碗放進箱籠里，索性忘了倒也是了，偏在這船要起篙的當兒，驀地想起：“碗！”
“什麽？”母親不知所雲。
“那飯碗，越窯盌。”
“你放在哪里？”
“枕頭邊！”
母親素知凡是我想著什麽東西，就忘不掉了，要使忘掉，唯一的辦法是那東西到了我手上。…

我又暗笑了，原來那大大的黃紙折成的“疏頭”上，竟寫明地址呢，可是“二十四度”是什麽？是有關送“疏頭”的？還是有關收“疏頭”的？真的有陰間？陰間也有緯度嗎……因為胡思亂想，就不覺到了終局，人一站直，立刻舒暢，手捧裝在大信封里蓋有巨印的“巰頭”，奔回來向母親交差。我得意地說：“這疏頭上還有地址，吉江省立桐桑縣清風鄉二十四度，是寄給閹羅王收的。”
沒想到圍著母親的那群姑媽舅媽姨媽們大事調侃：“哎喲！十歲的孩子已經聽得懂和尚念經了，將來不得了啊！”
“舉人老爺的得意門生嘛！”
“看來也要得道的，要做八十二家和尚廟里的總當家。”…

孩子的知識圈，應是該懂的懂，不該懂的不懂，這就形成了童年的幸福。我的兒時，那是該懂的不懂，不該懂的卻懂了些，這就弄出許多至今也未必能解脫的困惑來。
不滿十歲，我已知“寺”、“廟”、“院”、“殿”、“硯”、“宮”、“庵”的分別。當我隨著我母親和一大串姑媽舅媽姨媽上摩安山去做佛事時，山腳下的“玄壇殿”我沒說什麽。半山的“三清觀”也沒說什麽。將近山頂的“睡獅庵”我問了：“就是這里啊？”
“是囉，我們到了！”挑擔領路的腳俠說。
我問母親：
“是叫尼姑做道場啊？”…
