她突然記取父母離婚前任在布拉格的房子也是六號，可她回答說：“你住在六號房，而我的班六點鐘完。”（我們據此可以稱贊她的狡黠。）
“行，我的火車七點開。”陌生人說。
她不知道怎麼回答才好，給了一張賬單請他簽字，又將其交至服務臺。等她幹完活，陌生人已不在桌旁了。他明白了她小心的暗示麼？她興奮地離開旅館。
旅館對面是一個荒蕪的小公園，破敗得只能在這骯髒小鎮上找到。但對特麗莎來說，它一直是一個美麗的小島：那里有草地，有四棵白楊樹，有幾條長凳，有一樹垂柳，還有一點兒叫連翹的灌木叢。…

特麗莎的母親響亮地擤鼻子，跟人們公開談她的性生活，並且洋洋得意地展示她的假牙。她可以技藝純熟地用舌頭把那些假牙頂出來。如果嘴笑得太開，上排牙齒會落在下排牙齒上。諸如此類，給她的臉增添了一種兇狠的表情。
她的行為僅具有唯一的標示：拋棄青春和美麗。在九個求婚者跪在她周圍的日子里，她聰明地保護著自己的裸身，這樣做似乎是想努力表明她的身體在貞操方面的價值。現在，她不僅是失去了貞操，而且已經猛烈擊碎了它，並張張揚揚地用新的不貞給今昔生活劃一條界線，宣稱青春與美麗被人們過分高估，其實毫無價值。
依我看來，特麗莎只是她母親這種標示的繼續，她母親正是這樣來拋棄了自己小美人的生活，拋在身後遠遠的。…
