巴爾托洛梅烏·洛倫索神父用腳跟磕了磕騾子繼續往前走，騾子是一頭聽到炮聲也不驚的久經戰陣的牲口，非純種生物都是如此，這種情況太多了，混血使他們變得不易驚嚇，在這個世界上這類牲口和人具有最好的生活方式。
路上泥濘不堪，表明泉水由於地震被堵塞，在無處可流的地方冒了出來，或者分成非常細小的水流，甚至水原子也分開了，於是山上乾枯了；巴爾托洛梅烏·洛倫索神父騎著騾子在這條路上慢慢往下走，到了鎮上，向教區長打聽“七個太陽”家住在哪里。
這位教區神父做成了一樁賺錢的生意，因為維拉山上的一些土地屬他所有；不知道是因為土地非常值錢還是其主人非常有身份，對他的土地作價很高，15萬列亞爾，與付給若奧·弗朗西斯科的13500列亞爾相比真是無上地下。
