At each developmental stage, the new language contains the previous stage: the Language of the Gods remains within the language of heroes; the Language of Heroes remains within Plebeian language. Therefore, contemporary utterance contains, like a Babushka doll, its own past. Yet these forms of language have entirely different sets of values and interests and exist as internal conflict in any utterance, something many later theorists have discovered with both dismay and disruptive effects.5

5 For instance, Jacques Derrida’s deconstruction is indeed the recognition that any utterance is spoken through its speaker in conflicting and contrary ways, often at odds with its speaker or writer and often without their awareness that this is happening.
