傅雷《藝術哲學》譯者序 上
法國史學家兼批評家丹納（Hippolyte Adolphe Taine，1828年4月21日- 1893年3月5日）自幼博聞強記，長於抽象思維，老師預言他是“為思想而生活”的人。中學時代成績卓越，文理各科都名列第一；一八四八年又以第一名考人國立高等師範，專政哲學。一八五一年畢業後任中學教員，不久即以政見與當局不合而辭職，以寫作為專業，他和許多學者一樣，不僅長於希臘文，拉丁文，並且很早精通英文，德文，意大利文。一八五八至七一年間遊歷英，比，荷，意，德諸國。一八六四年起應巴黎美術學校之聘，擔任美術史講座，一八七一年在英國牛津大學講學一年。他一生沒有遭遇重大事故，完全過著書齋生活，便是旅行也是為研究學問搜集材料：但一八七○年的普法戰爭對他刺激很大，成為他研究“現代法蘭西淵源”的主要原因。…
