然而，我們不必憑推測就可斷定，在酒神的希臘人同酒神的野蠻人之間隔著一條鴻溝。
在古代世界的各個地區(這裏不談現代世界)，從羅馬到巴比倫，我們都能夠指出酒神節的存在，其類型之於希臘酒神節，至多如同從公山羊借得名稱和標誌的長鬍鬚薩提兒薩提兒(Satyr)。希臘神話中的森林之神，其形狀為半人、半山羊，縱慾好飲，代表原始人的自然衝動。之於酒神自己。幾乎在所有的地方，這些節日的核心都是一種顛狂的性放縱，它的浪潮沖決每個家庭及其莊嚴規矩；天性中最兇猛的野獸徑直脫開韁繩，乃至肉
