（日）德富蘆花：斷崖
從某小祠到某漁村有一條小道。路上有一處斷崖。其間二百多丈長的羊腸小徑，從絕壁邊通過。上是懸崖，下是大海。行人稍有一步之差，便會從數十丈高的絕壁上翻落到海裏，被海裏的巖石撞碎頭顱，被亂如女鬼頭發的海藻纏住手腳。身子一旦墮入冰冷的深潭，就會渾身麻木，默默死去，無人知曉。
斷崖，斷崖，人生處處多斷崖！
一
某年某月某日，有兩個人站在這絕壁邊的小道上。
後邊的是“他”。他是我的朋友，竹馬之友——也是我的敵人，不共戴天之敵。…

（日）安房直子：鳥
一個城鎮裏，有一位耳科醫生。
小小的診所，一天連一天，都在瞧看病人的耳朵。
那是位技術特別高的醫生，所以候診室裏總是滿員。也有從遠處的村莊，被火車晃了好幾個小時趕來的人。經這位醫生的醫治，耳病完全痊愈的事，多得數不清。
每天都那麽忙，最近，醫生有點累了。
“我也應該偶爾去做做健康診斷。”
黃昏，在醫療室裏，醫生嘟噥著，整理著病例。平時負責護士工作的太太，前不久出門，現在，只剩下醫生一人。夏天的夕陽，亮亮地照著那白色的小房間。…
