虹影《53種離別》少年（下）
下半夜，我幾乎沒有睡，無法入睡，一直到天亮。好吧，他在懲罰我，我也在懲罰自己，就在他去過的菲律賓，在那聖佩德羅？庫圖德的小山上，我曾跟一排悔罪者將自己的名字釘在十字架上，一是為了感謝上帝；二是企盼生病的親人能康復；三是想贖罪。
又一天晚上，他打電話：“十五分鐘到你的院子，我很想念你，能否和姐姐在院墻外聊五分鐘？”
“不能。”這回輪到我無情了。
“好幾人因害怕而跳樓，要讓家里傭人洗菜二十分鐘以上。扛著大袋米。民工戴著口罩往北京火車站逃跑。你想嗎，若想，我來幫你。”

虹影《53種離別》少年（中）
我發現自己一夜之間竟成了一個受虐狂。
開窗，新鮮的空氣灌進屋來。叫餐，隔著房門，送餐人將菜擱在事先墊好的報紙上，將那錢取走。拼命上網，查症狀，是絕症。我見過一個從廣州回來的朋友，情形與我一樣，我打電話過去，找不到他，從別的朋友那兒打聽到，他進了醫院，三天後死亡。
記得第一次與他聊時，他說他是白曁豚。我逗著他說：“是啊，這白曁豚在長江里已差不多絕跡，需要保護。”他有很多照片，浪跡天涯的照片，我喜歡摸他的腳，我從未遇見一個人走過的國家能有我那麽多，他甚至去了我沒有去的國家，在非洲，得了熱死病，沒死，拾了一條命回來。…
