詹姆斯·瑟伯：一張狗的照片
前不久，我在翻舊東西時，看到它的一張模糊不清的照片。它已經死了二十五年，它名叫雷克斯（我跟我的哥哥、弟弟十來歲時，給它起了這個名字），它是條鬥牛梗。“美國鬥牛梗。”我們經常自豪地說，根本不是你們那種英國鬥牛梗。它一只眼睛上有深色斑紋，有時候讓它看上去像是個小醜，有時候讓你聯想到一位戴著常禮帽、抽著雪茄的政客。它身上其他地方全是白色的，除了背部有塊帶著深色斑紋的地方，總是好像要滑下去，有一條後腿的腳部有深色條紋。不管怎麽樣，即使在去完成我和我的哥哥、弟弟給它布置的艱巨任務時，它也從來不失尊嚴。其中有一項任務，是把一段…
