塞林格：獻給愛斯美（下）
他蹲下用桌布蒙著全身，只露出眼睛憋著嗓門說：“一對桔紅色的眼睛。”
“請原諒。這是我的小弟弟查爾斯。按他的年齡說也聰明極了。”愛斯美深情地說，“他非常懷念我父親，父親特別驕寵他，可是不久前，父親在北非戰場被殺害了……”原來這姐弟倆是戰爭孤兒。我的心不由得一沈。我靜靜地聽她講述，一邊低頭看查爾斯。他發現我看他，就把頭倚在椅子上假裝睡著了，那安詳的樣子像小天使一樣可愛。隨後，他又把舌頭伸出來老長做出鬼臉。“快別那樣！”姐姐的喊聲還沒停住，他就蹦起來，用小拳頭打了我胳膊一記，尖聲道：“這面墻對那面墻說什麽了？這個謎語請你猜！”我佯裝仰天思考，接著便用被難倒的表情表示認輸。
“墻角見！”他歡快地喊出這句妙語，哈哈笑著，樂不可支。…
