王蒙•榴蓮

早在一九八七年訪問泰國的時候，就聽人說起過榴蓮。"你吃過榴蓮嗎？"熟悉南國的友人問。留連？多麽好聽的名字，沒有任何別的水果有這樣美妙的發音。梨，叫人想到離別；棗兒，特土；瓜，傻乎乎的；桃兒，又太小兒科。"不是那個留連，而是石榴的榴，蓮花的蓮。"友人說。那就更妙了。我想：石榴和蓮花，都是最美觀、最賞心悅目的，不但看起來悅目，聽起來也十分悅耳，既有榴蓮的直觀的鮮麗，又有留連的深情，還未相逢，我已經愛上了它。

"榴蓮很臭，許多人不吃它。"

"榴蓮很香，沒吃過它的是很遺憾的。""榴蓮嘛，反正吃那麽一次也就行了。"不同的說法，使它變得與眾不同，使它變成了大自然的一件有爭議的創造。而不論是去泰國還是去海南島，我都沒有趕上吃榴蓮的季節，真不巧，沒有那個緣分，好奇心也就漸漸地淡漠了。…

　　雕刻成我凹凸的性格

　　再繪上一些色彩

　　我便是人人愛好

　　會演會唱的傀儡

　　　　影子的家庭背景…
