看到院裡戲台上正開場，又看廓上的燈，聽聽廂房各處傳來的牌聲，風扇聲開汽水聲，大爺知道一切都圓滿地進行，明天事完了，他就可以走了。
「伯伯上哪兒去？」游廊對面走出一個清秀的女孩。他怔住了看，慧石——是他兄弟的女兒，已經長的這麼大了？大爺傷感著，看他早死兄弟的遺腹女兒，她長得實在像她爸爸。實在像她爸爸。
「慧石，是你。長得這樣俊，伯伯快認不得了。」
慧石只是笑，笑。大伯伯還會說笑話，她覺得太料想不到的事，同時她像被電擊一樣，觸到伯伯眼裡蘊住的憐愛，一股心酸抓緊了她的嗓子。
她仍只是笑。…
