里柯克·洗衣問題（下）
假如當年那可憐的洗衣婦有一挺機槍和一點兒炸藥的話，那她準能發大財。可惜她不明白其中的奧秘。在過去那些日子，一個洗衣婦洗一件襯衫只掙十二分之十分錢——也就是說，每洗一打衣服掙一毛錢。而今天最好的洗衣公司，也就是那些拒絕外人參觀其辦公場所，由一名全副武裝的衛兵把衣服押送回來的大公司，它們現在洗一件衣服的收費標準為一塊錢，特惠價為每洗一打衣服收十二元。
若是用以上標準計費，洗衣婦的收入可增加到原來的一百二十倍。而實際上，她的年收入只有五十元，她所代表的價值就這麽一丁點兒。要是當年人們知道她其實不止值這幾個錢的話，那她完全可能被某個老板招進洗衣公司，從她身上賺到的紅利完全可能像滿樹的越橘一般豐盛。…

——渴望回到有謙卑的洗衣婦的往日好時光
很久以前，大概三四十年以前吧，那時候世界上有一種謙卑的人，叫做洗衣婦。她的用處很簡單，那就是：每隔一兩天露一次面，用大大的籃子把髒衣服帶走，把它們洗得雪白後再送回來。
如今洗衣婦已經絕跡。她的位置已被聯合洗衣公司取代。她已經一去不回，但我希望她能回來。
