周建人·生物變化叙事（上）
近代不但學習生物學的人已都相信生物是在變化，不是固定不變的，便是一般的讀者差不多也已都這樣相信了。物質既不絕在運動，生活物質的代謝作用也是進行不停的，因此，生物體自然很容易發生變化了。如果此外再要根究「原因」，我們還可以回答說，因為生物體內部有矛盾。便拿單細胞的生物，同化作用旺盛時，細胞增大，體積既增大，與面積的比例就有矛盾而必須分裂為兩個。高等生物的器官間也有矛盾的。還有刺激性，生活的物質或生物體，對外界刺激能發生反應，近來稱為反映，生物由此會生變化。…
