蘇格蘭啟蒙運動的情感理論在中國傳統哲學中理應得到很好的回應, 因為中國傳統哲學中同樣蘊含著內容豐富的情感理論。李澤厚在2010年和2011年的談話中再次強調其哲學的核心是「情本體」 (之所以是「再次」, 是因為李澤厚早先就已經提出「情本體」這個概念) , 並將「情本體」視為一種有關人類和個體生存延續的人類學歷史本體論[77]。「情本體」向內推演是現代人深切感受的個體自身的存在意義問題, 向外推延是將「情」滲入政治哲學中, 是「宗教性道德」對「社會性道德」的「範導和適當構建」[]。

就正義之德這個主題而言, 我們可以沿著李澤厚先生探索的道路, 追尋中國傳統理論中的正義論。不考慮本國實情而全盤接受某種外來的理論是不明智的。巧合的是, 蘇格蘭啟蒙思想家所構想的情感正義論, 以及以情感為原點的社會秩序論, 契合了中國社會長期以來的理論傳統。處於轉型時期的當代中國可以從重視人情倫常的傳統中發掘合適的理論, 並汲取蘇格蘭啟蒙思想中的道德情感論, 在經濟、政治和法律領域做出自己的理論探索。
