（美國）馬克·斯特蘭德：狗的日子
葛洛佛·巴列特和他的妻子翠西躺在他們那張特大號的床上，蓋著填滿絨毛的淺藍色棉被。他們瞪著天鵝絨般溢著芳香的黑暗。後來，葛洛佛翻了個身，看著他的妻子，她金色的頭髮環繞在臉旁，使得臉孔看起來小了些。她的唇微微張開著，他想告訴她一些事情，但他想說的事是那麽駭人，以致他有點猶豫。這件事藏在他心中很久了，現在他覺得必須說出來，不管冒什麽險。
“親愛的，”他說：“我想告訴你一些事情。”
翠西憂郁地瞪大雙眼。
“葛洛佛，拜托，如果是會讓我生氣的事，我寧可不聽……”
“我只想說，在我遇見你之前，我不是這個樣子。”…
