《九歌》《九章》和《九辯》本身就是不同的素材庫的選集化呈現。盡管這些文本系列中的一小部分獨立於整體之外，其他成組集的部分卻可能反映了它們起初的彼此互滲（試考慮《湘君》和《湘夫人》）。這種流動性的表現尤其可見於《九辯》，其中的各個詩章甚至沒有被分別標以題目。但是，僅僅通過詩歌之間共享了某些理念和表達，是不足以說明素材庫模型的有效性的，這些詩歌同樣必須能與來自其他素材庫的詩歌區別開來——正如《九歌》和《九章》之間的詩歌就判然相別那樣。
然而，只有一篇合成文本最終將這些彼此分別的素材庫以獨立詩篇的形式整合在一起，也正是因此，該詩顯示出聲音、視角和詞匯上的內在多樣性，也表現出斷裂、重復和突兀的不連續性：這首詩即是《離騷》。
