陰影之河·無盡的現實（1）
在《陰影之河：埃德沃德·邁布里奇與技術西部》（River of Shadows: Eadweard Muybridge and the Technological Wild West）一書中，作者索爾尼特（Rebecca Solnit）將現代社會——確切地說，“技術、娛樂、以及所謂生活方式的集合”的源頭指向兩個著名的加州人和幾張馬的照片。
這兩個人一個叫埃德沃德·邁布里奇，攝影師兼發明家，另一位叫利蘭·斯坦，馬的主人，也是當時美國洲際鐵路的四大工業家之一，但他更重要的角色是斯坦福大學的創始人。
1872年，利蘭·斯坦福與幾個東岸來的騎手打賭，馬在快速奔跑的瞬間 4 條腿是否是同時離開了地面？
他雇了埃德沃德·邁布里奇幫他找出答案。…
