2.1 身體、具象化與女性主義地理學

身體作為情感發生最緊密的空間尺度[20] ,使情感在身體和具象化研究中得到重視。 尤其在慢性病和殘疾人地理與精神問題地理領域的身體和具象化研究中,情感在特定環境和地方的呈現與表征得到了關注。

Dyck研究了硬化症女性對工作場所賦予其殘疾人形象時所產生的壓抑感和排斥感[21] ,而Moss則以自身的腦脊髓炎經歷為例,闡述了在工作 場所受到的過度同情與輕視時的情感混亂狀態[22] 。精神問題地理研究則證明了如廣場恐 懼症[23,24] 、強迫症[25] 、精神疾病[26] 等精神問題的症狀與情感經歷息息相關。

研究也發現社區護理在情感關懷上對精神疾病治療的作用顯著[27,28] 。身體邊界常常以沖突、破壞的情感 方式被感知與談判[29] 。女性懷孕與女性的情感變化[30] 、健身與身體情感[31] 、身體消費[32,33] 等方面的研究,也表明了身體邊界的產生、變化與重構都離不開情感的作用。 但是身體和具象化研究多見於女性主義地理學研究中。

長期以來男性氣概 (masculinity)常被認為是理性的、精神的和客觀性的,而女性氣質(femininity)則被認為是情感的、身體的和主觀性的[29,34] 。女性主義地理學廣泛運用後結構主義的觀念,質疑並動搖這種二元結構的思考方式[35-37] 。對二元結構思考方式與理性的反思與批評,也在一定程度 上使得情感的地位得到確立。

如在女性恐懼感的研究中,關注了女性恐懼感與父權空間的關係[38] 、誘導女性恐懼感產生的環境[39] 、恐懼感在性別服從中產生的空間影響[40-43] 等內容,使得情感問題得到了一定的空間化研究。身體、具象化與女性地理學與情感的研究相互交融,通過對理性與情感、我者與他者的二元解構,流動的、呈現的(embodied) 與相關性的情感也得到了概念化。

2.2 人本主義地理學

受現象學與存在主義哲學思潮的影響,1970年代人文地學界開始了對客觀性、理性與邏輯實證主義的反思。以段義孚為代表的人本主義地理學的興起[44] ,人對地方與空間的體驗與感覺得到了地理學家的廣泛關注[45-47] 。雖然,「情感」並沒有明顯地出現在人本主義地理學的研究中,但Ley等關於影像收集的研究[46]Rowles關於老年人空間體驗的研究[48] ,以及Tuan對恐懼景觀的分析[49] ,都已經關注到了地方與人類生活的情感問題。

而且,作為描述人與地方情感聯系與心理依附的地方感、地方依戀和地方認同等概念, 過去40年來,在地理學、城市規劃與環境心理學領域被廣泛運用到對「生活世界」的描 述中[50] ,人的主觀體驗在地理學中的地位也得到確認。基於新古典經濟學的假設,人總是傾向於自治和經濟理性的行動者,這也使邏輯實證主義的計量方法被廣泛地運用到地理學研究中。地理學曾一度概念化成「空間科學」,而人本主義地理學對此則持強烈批判態度,動搖了經濟合理性對地理學的統治[18]

空間不是冰冷的幾何空間,還承載著人類豐富的情感體驗[51] 。這也直接影響到了情感地理學對「抽象空間」的反思[16] 。人本主義地理學在空間與地方的主觀體驗方面的研究,為情感地理學留下了豐厚的遺產,但卻沒有動搖到將情感簡單化為個人的主觀體驗的看法[18]

2.3 非表征理論與精神分析方法

文化地理學也關注具象化的情感,並提倡關注超越言語的表征方式,即非表征[52] 。 非表征理論認為,無論是文本、言語還是視覺都不能作為情感的表征方式[52] 。如Dews bury認為「目擊」生產了「缺乏沈思的認知」[53]Lorimer認為在地理學研究中,被調查 者的言語往往會與其所為背道而馳,情感表演由於難以通過言語來捕捉,所以非表征理 論更傾向於人的實踐行為和非言語行為,並運用抽象的哲學語言去解釋這些行為[54] 。然 而,非表征理論卻遠離了人在日常生活中清晰表達情感的模式,正如Bondi所言:即使語言經常帶有表演性,但非語言行為除非存在預解釋或是存在意義的符號,否則也是無 意義的[16]

非表征理論為情感地理學研究留下了一個尖銳的問題,但文本的表演性問題、非語言行為和難以被表達的情感,也受到情感地理學的重視,非表征理論也被廣泛應用到情感地理學研究中。另一方面,精神分析法的廣泛應用也為剖析情感問題提供了有利的工具。Bondi提出,精神分析法給情感地理學傳遞了兩個重要的信息:一是避免將情感當作普通的、主觀的純粹個人表達,二是感覺的表征與情感的區別[18] 。但是,近來由非表征和精神分析法掀起的對情感(emotion)和感情(affect)地理學的爭論表明,過於強調精神分析的作用,反而會讓情感地理研究引入局限的心理學範疇
[55,56] 雖然,情感地理學與心理學密不可分,但情感地理學更多還是強調情感的空間性、開放性與關係性。
