就餐速度的加快在農場中亦有所反映。化學肥料和殺蟲劑、集約餵養、抗生素消化增強劑、生長激素、人工飼養、轉基因等,人類掌握的每一種科學技術都被採用到減少成本、提高產量、提高牲畜與莊稼生長發育速度上來。兩個世紀以前,飼養豬平均要花費5年才能達到體重130磅;而如今,只需6個月就可達到220磅,在還沒有換乳牙前就已被屠宰。北美的鮭魚、大馬哈魚經過轉基因處理後,比通常的平均生長速度快四至六倍。小土地所有者讓位於工廠農場,後者生產出更快、更便宜、更多的標準化食物。
