王汝南既除所生服，遂停墓所。兄子濟每來拜墓，略不過叔，叔亦不候。濟脫時過，止寒溫而已。後聊試問近事，答對甚有音辭，出濟意外，濟極惋愕。仍與語，轉造清微。濟先略無子侄之敬，既聞其言，不覺懍然，心形俱肅。遂留共語，彌日累夜。濟雖雋爽，自視缺然，乃喟然嘆曰：”家有名士，三十年而不知！”
濟去，叔送至門。濟從騎有一馬，絕難乘，少能騎者。濟聊問叔：”好騎乘不？”曰”亦好爾。”濟又使騎難乘馬，叔姿形既妙，回策如縈，名騎無以過之。濟益嘆其難測，非復一事。…

羊公還洛，郭弈為野王令。羊至界，遣人要之。郭便自往。既見，嘆曰：“羊叔子何必減郭太業！”復往羊許，小悉還，又嘆曰：“羊叔子去人遠矣！”羊既去，郭送之彌日，一舉數百里，遂以出境免官。復嘆曰：“羊叔子何必減顏子！”——《世說新語•賞譽》
有些人聽起來名聲震耳，一見面後就叫人興味索然；有些人暫時默默無聞，一會面就讓人一見傾心。前一種人浪得虛名，一經接觸就知道他“不過如此”，後一種人深藏不露，了解越多就越對他佩服得五體投地——這則小品中令郭奕三見三嘆的羊祜，無疑就屬於後一種人。…
