黃永武《愛蘆小品》 削圓方竹杖
溪頭森林多竹，竹子是圓的，誰都知道。但在餐廳前更有一叢方竹，雖不是棱角分明，竿身天生就已化規為矩，方方的竹竿，顯得憨厚可愛。
物以稀為貴，古人早就視“方竹”為珍品，制成的“方竹杖”是雅士的珍玩。曾有一位潤州太守，攜著方竹杖去遊甘露寺，為了禮佛尊僧，他把寶愛的方竹杖送給了寺內的和尚，經過宦海的幾度播遷，數年後他又再度到潤州做太守，再遊甘露寺，問起那根方竹杖的下落，原來寺僧嫌它是方的，已經削成圓形，又嫌它太素，已經加上油漆，早淪落成一根油漆棍子了！這位太守為它惋惜了很久。
“削圓方竹杖”的嗟嘆，好像是很特殊的案例，其實人世間到處充滿了這種無奈，一切珍愛的東西，只有在知音的手中，才是珍貴的，一朝離開知音者之手，只當是一個尋常的物品，沈淪飄泊，便有焦頭爛額的命運。…
