2000年7月14日恰好在巴黎趕上法國國慶，在協和廣場有盛大的閱兵式，受閱的方陣穿過凱旋門，從香榭麗舍大街一隊隊走來，但那個虛熱鬧我以為沒什麽看頭。去塞納河畔吧，那裏總沒逛夠。於是和妻子興致勃勃地順塞納河朝盧浮宮一帶漫步。
塞納河邊的石頭矮墻上，固定著一些漆成綠色的木頭櫃子，大體呈橫臥狀，頂部蓋子朝人行道傾斜，蓋住時用鎖鎖定。這些木櫃外表都比較粗糙，有的更綠漆剝落，似非雅觀。每到日上三竿，櫃主便紛紛來到，打開鐵鎖，支開櫃蓋，變戲法似的，將那木櫃擺弄成一個舊貨攤，主要是展賣舊書刊，其次是舊照片舊明信片舊海報老郵票，再就是一些舊的小古董小紀念品。這些舊貨攤多年來風格不變，成為巴黎一道別有滋味的風景線。我和妻子一路慢慢地觀覽過去。只覺得法國正史、野史的若幹片斷，斑駁雜沓地跳進眼裏，昔日王謝堂前燕，真是飛入了尋常百姓家。…
