紀伯倫《流浪者》鷹和雲雀
一頭鷹和一隻雲雀在一座高山的一塊巖石上相遇。雲雀說："祝您早安，先生。"鷹鄙夷地瞧著雲雀，有氣無力地說道："早晨好。"
雲雀說："我祝願您萬事大吉，先生。"
"是啊，"鷹說，"我們是萬事大吉大利。可你要知道，我們是眾鳥之王，我們還沒有開口，你就不應該先招呼我們。"
雲雀說："我以為咱們是屬於同一個家族的哩。"
鷹以鄙夷的神色瞧著雲雀，說道："究竟誰說過你和我是屬於同一個家族的？"於是雲雀答道："不過，我倒要提醒你這一點：我能飛翔得同你一樣高，我還能唱歌，給大地上其他生物以樂趣。而你既不給人愉快，又不給人樂趣。"…

紀伯倫《流浪者》先知和孩子
有一天，先知莎里亞在一個花園里遇見一個孩子。孩子跑到先知跟前，說道："早上好，先生。"於是先知說："早上好，先生。"一忽兒以後，又說，"我看你是獨自一個人吧。"
孩子哈哈大笑，高高興興地說道："我花了好大功夫才擺脫了我的保姆。她以為我是在那些籬笆後面；可你豈看不到我在這花園里嗎？"孩子凝望著先知的臉，又說道，你也是獨自一個人啊。你怎麽對付你的保姆的？"先知答道："啊，那可是另外一回事了。說句老實話，我沒法兒時常擺脫我的保姆。不過，現在我進入這個花園的時候，保姆正在籬笆背後尋找我呢。"
