在都市住上十年，我還是個鄉下人。第一件事，早就永遠不習慣城里人所習慣的道德的愉快，倫理的愉快。
我崇拜朝氣，歡喜自由，贊美膽量大的，精力強的。一個人行為或精神上有朝氣，不在小利小害上打算計較，不拘於物質攫取與人世毀譽，他能硬起脊梁，筆直走他要走的道路，他所學的或同我所學的完全是兩樣東西，他的內政治思想或與我的極其相反，他的宗教信仰或與我的十分衝突，那不礙事，我仍然覺得這是個朋友，這是個人。我愛這樸人山尊敬這種人。因為這種人有氣魄，有力量。這種人也許野一點、粗一點，但一切偉大事業偉大作品就只這類人有份。他不能避免失敗，他失敗了能再幹。他容易跌倒，但在跌倒以後仍然即刻可以爬起。…
