在串流平台全面改寫影像產業的過程中,Netflix 早期自製電影策略經常被簡化為一句話:「他們專門找好萊塢不要的劇本。」這句話乍聽帶著諷刺意味,卻精準點出了 Netflix 與傳統電影工業在價值判斷機制上的根本差異。與其說 Netflix 偏好「垃圾」,不如說它刻意進入主流片廠所放棄的文化灰色地帶,將被視為無法變現、無法行銷的創作內容,重新定義為可被配置、分眾與累積的文化資產。
