文化有根 創意是伴 Bridging Creativity
柳宗元說,讀韓文公文章,要先用玫瑰露漱口,這和歐陽修總要先以蘭草熬湯洗手,再捧出韓文來讀,是一樣的對前輩表示敬佩之忱。蘭草熬湯洗手還不難,玫瑰露漱口豈不是太浪費了,也不知柳宗元哪來那麼多的玫瑰露呢?
我母親會製玫瑰鹵,我卻稱之為玫瑰露,以增加美的聯想。
母親將盛開的玫瑰花摘下,倒掛於透風的廊下吹去水分。不可照強烈陽光以免變色及太乾,玫瑰香味將盡失了。半乾後一片片輕輕剝下撕碎,將冰糖用適度滾水溶化後趁熱投入玫瑰花拌勻(不能用蜂蜜,恐有腥味就不純了)。將拌勻的糖漿傾入玻璃罐中,因有水不會再結成硬塊。數日後,溶液漸呈粉紅色,愈來愈深,玫瑰露就告成了。
我家院子裡玫瑰花非常多,花匠阿標叔每天清晨都會剪幾朵給母親供佛。因佛堂不透風,供過的玫瑰花水分不能放散,顏色也暗了,所以不能用以製玫瑰露,只能把它撕碎和在糕餅裡吃。
母親是個著重實用的人,花兒草兒,都盡量拿來做出好的東西。但她別出心裁的細緻,合情,卻是當時全村莊其他婦女所不及的。莫說煮鶴焚琴,其實她是吃蓮花的雅客呢。
後來我看了《紅樓夢》的「玫瑰露」、「茯苓霜」,高興地告訴母親,她笑咪咪地說:「當年初(家鄉話從前的意思)的女人家真能幹,哪像我只會拿菜刀呢?」母親總是這般的謙虛,其實她的一雙巧手,會的事兒可多著呢。
