谷崎潤一郎·陰翳禮讚 （4）
我曾被邀參加某次茶會，端上來一碗醬湯。平時隨便飲用的那種稠糊的赤褐色場汁，在搖曳、隱約的燭光映照下，沈澱在黑漆的碗底，令人感到富有深沈優美的色彩。
此外，在大阪、京都，炒菜都用濃醬油烹調，那種膠稠的光亮液汁，多麽富有“陰翳”色彩而與“暗”相調和啊！
但白色醬油、豆腐、魚糕、山藥汁和白生魚片等純白色的食物，如置於周圍雪亮的房屋裏，那就難於顯示其本色了。
白米飯如盛入黑漆光亮的飯桶裏，置於暗處，一看就會引起美感而刺激食欲。那剛剛燒煮的雪白米飯，一揭開鍋蓋，飯香撲鼻而來；盛入黑色容器，看到一粒一粒宛如珍珠閃閃發光的飯粒，凡是日本人誰不感到這米飯是多麽珍貴啊！…
