葉靈鳳《太陽夜記》·茶淘飯
在這夏天的傍晚，肚餓的時候，能夠有機會在家裡赤了雙腳，僅穿汗衫，吃一碗茶淘飯充飢，實在是人生的一種享受。
夏天喫茶淘飯，本來是很尋常的，可是在小時候，大人見了總要加以勸止，說是吃多了會黃臉。到了現在，這一點「喫茶淘飯」的自由，總算由自己掌握到了，但是形勢比人強，雖有這自由，卻未必一定有時間和方便，因此，本來可以有機會吃一碗茶淘飯的，卻終於吃了幾塊甜餅乾，一片牛油麵包。
我說能夠有機會在肚餓的時候吃一碗茶淘飯，是人生的一種享受，不僅不是矯情之談，這裡面甚至還有點慶幸。因為對我來說，這樣的機緣，並不是隨時都有的。…

葉靈鳳《太陽夜記》·鎮江醬菜
鎮江的醬菜，一向是有名的。種類有醬黃瓜，醬生薑，蘿蔔頭，什錦醬菜，都是當地傳統著名的特產。
最近有一批這樣的醬菜運到這裡來發售。除了沒有醬生薑之外，其餘三種都有。都是用玻璃瓶裝的，鐵蓋。美中不足的是，鐵蓋撬開後，就不能再用，一隻質地非常好的玻璃瓶，就變成沒有蓋的了。以前曾來過一批，是用有螺旋的鐵蓋的，不知現在為什麼又改了裝。
但這總比早幾年用玻璃杯的鐵蓋裝設計好得多了。以前那一隻盛醬菜的玻璃杯，用意原來很好，吃完了醬菜還可以有一隻玻璃杯可用，可惜那鐵蓋蓋得非常緊，很難撬得開，往往要撬破了玻璃杯的邊緣，深以為可惜。…
