愛因斯坦具有不必事先准備而即席演奏的才能，演奏時而明快流暢，時而委婉悠揚， 時而雄渾莊嚴，極其富於變化。此時，他就像忘情的孩子，完全神游於音樂的王國，沉迷在豐富的幻想和愜意的思維之中，忘卻了人間的世界，對一切實在的東西都毫無感覺，「飄飄乎如遺世獨立，羽化而登仙」。他不願同職業藝術家一起公演比賽，這既出自他作為業余愛好者的謙遜，也怕給職業音樂家造成難堪。但是，他卻經常為慈善事業義演。愛因斯坦也即興彈鋼琴，一有外人進屋，他就立即中斷彈奏。音樂此時成為他勞動之後的輕松和消遣，或是新工作開始之前的醞釀和激勵。…
