必須注意到德勒茲著作中的以下注意事項。
首先，一種「虛擬的強度」不存在於其他任何地方，而是存在於它所構成的廣延（extended）之中。盡管它與這種廣延的事物（extended）不盡相同，但虛擬的強度並不意味著本體論上的分割（separation）。
