PETRONAS Launches Two Digital Platforms to Connect Sabah Talent with Industry Opportunities

KOTA KINABALU, Aug. 4 — PETRONAS has reaffirmed its commitment to developing Sabah's workforce by launching two PETRONAS-funded digital platforms: POMIGAS (Sabah Oil and Gas Industry Job Vacancy and Internship Online Application System) and the Sabah Work Pass Online System.

Both platforms were developed in collaboration with the Sabah State Government.

POMIGAS is a centralized online platform integrated into the Sabah Jobs Portal ecosystem. It is designed to provide Sabahans—particularly youths, fresh graduates, and job seekers—with access to employment matching and training opportunities in the oil and gas sector. By connecting local talent with industry demand and strengthening Sabah's oil and gas talent pipeline, the platform aims to enhance workforce readiness.

The Sabah Work Pass Online System is a digital platform that streamlines the submission and management of Sabah work pass applications. It enables employers to submit required documents, monitor application status, and facilitate the work pass approval process in coordination with the relevant immigration and labour authorities.

The two platforms were officially launched today by Datuk Haji Awang Shaminan, Secretary of the Sabah State Government's Home Affairs and Research Office under the Chief Minister's Department, during the 2nd Sabah Oil and Gas Industry Talent Alignment Forum (SOGITAF 2.0).

Also present at the event was Maria Zhang, Senior General Manager of Human Resources at PETRONAS Upstream and Malaysia Petroleum Management (MPM).

Awang Shaminan said, "These two platforms reflect the shared commitment of the Sabah State Government and PETRONAS to strengthen Sabah's oil and gas workforce ecosystem. By creating greater access to industry opportunities, supporting the development of local talent, and adopting a more coordinated approach, we can better align Sabahans with the needs of the industry."

Datuk Siti Ayu Abdul Wahab, PETRONAS Regional General Manager for Sabah and Labuan, said, "PETRONAS remains committed to unlocking the potential of Sabah's local talent by supporting initiatives that enhance workforce capabilities and improve access to industry opportunities. Our goal is to build a skilled, future-ready oil and gas workforce."

Both initiatives are managed by the Home Affairs and Research Division of the Chief Minister's Department. POMIGAS has been operational since earlier this year, while the Sabah Work Pass Online System will officially commence operations on September 1, 2026.

As part of the broader effort to strengthen Sabah's oil and gas ecosystem, the Sabah Oil and Gas Industry Talent Alignment Forum (SOGITAF) serves as a platform for PETRONAS, Petroleum Arrangement Contractors (PACs), and the relevant Sabah authorities to deepen collaboration, improve understanding of regulatory requirements, and address issues affecting the industry. The forum also helps raise awareness of applicable policies and procedures, contributing to smoother business operations.
