傳言胡狼還有鼴鼠，是和林中的雄獅，從同一條溪流中飲水。傳言雄鷹和禿鷲，也在同一具死屍上啄食，共享這死物的時刻，它們總是相安無事。啊，愛情！你高貴的手，曾控馭著我的願望，將我的饑與渴，高升為自尊和傲睨；莫讓強悍與永恒之我，飲食誘惑了軟弱之我的，酒釀與麵包；倒不如讓我饑餓，讓我的心竭極乾涸，讓我死亡，滅跡！我寧此也不會伸手，抓你未滿敬的杯盅，你未祝福的碗盞。

紀伯倫《先驅者》上帝的小丑
有一次，一位夢想家從沙漠來到偉大的舍里阿城；他的全部家當，就是身穿的衣裳和手中的一根木棒。
走在街上，他對眼前的殿堂、尖塔、宮殿，既敬畏又驚嘆，舍里阿城好不富麗堂皇！他不時拉住行人，詢問城市的情況，但他和行人彼此都聽不懂對方的語言。
時值中午，他在一家大飯店門前停下。飯店用金黃色的大理石砌成，人們從門口進進出出，無人阻攔。
“這一定是座聖殿！”他一邊自言自語，一邊走了進去。到里面後他驚奇地發現，眼前竟是一間華美的大廳，成雙結對的男女們圍坐在一張張桌邊，他們邊吃邊喝，還在欣賞音樂。…
