陳丹青·讀書是件很安靜的事情
讀書是一件很安靜的事情。要是論教養，你真的是讀書人，你不要講出來。讀書也好，畫畫也好，不能弄成一種身份。
這是我到國外才學會的。國外很“牛”的人都害羞得要命，躲著不講自己挺在行的那些事。出國之前還沒有人說我是讀書人，是知識分子，回來後聽到不少人說我是做學問的，是藝術家等等。我很害臊，這怎麽好意思說出來？
陳寅恪先生周遊列國，通曉二十多種語言，可是他在清華填表時只填了兩種：梵語和德語。逃亡香港時，日本人到他家裏要挾他出來做事，他不肯，日本人就要行使暴力。當時樓裏有很多人，他突然站出來和日本人交涉，說很流利的日語，他的家人都不知道他的日語這麽好。不到萬不得已，你都不知道他會講日語，這就是教養。…
