李文倩·維特根斯坦論哲學史 下
在上引維特根斯坦所寫的信中，我們可以看到這樣幾層意思：其一，大量地閱讀哲學史是一件令人遺憾的事，因為這不僅無助於澄清自己的混亂，事實上也很難學到什麽東西。之所以會是這種情況，在於大多數經典的哲學家都生活在遙遠的過去時代，他們操著各自時代的哲學語言，這使得我們很難理解他們所說的究竟是什麽。其二，在認識到理解的難度之後，我們能做的唯一事情，是保持一種理智上的誠實，「告訴你自己你不理解他們究竟在說什麽」，而不是謬托知己、自欺欺人地以為自己理解了他們。其三，拋開時代的因素不論，一位真正的思想者會認識到，哪怕是同時代的人，思想上的相互理解也是一件極難的事。其四，哲學教授們因為職業的關係，會聲言自己理解了每個哲學家所說的東西，但對於並非哲學教授的人而言，這種「聲言」是一種不必要的負擔。…
