二是我們的感官覺不出漸變。我們嗅不到、看不見空氣中日益增多的二氧化碳，形象思維無法告訴我們溫室效應的災難正在臨近！再如，我們感覺不到企業、城市、人生的日常的錯誤決策，只有當企業要破產了，城市落後了，人生失敗了，感官才能通過尖銳對比看出錯誤、看出糟糕的結局。我們就像試驗室的青蛙一樣，掉進一鍋開水會立刻跳出來，但放在微溫的水中再漫漫燒熱，就會呆在那里直到有人把它救出來。漸變往往蒙騙了人的感覺，使頭腦中「危險感」的圖畫變得模糊，而尖銳的對比則使人保持警惕。問題是，如果人們只靠感官或形象思維來判斷事物，而不是靠能極大地彌補感官能力不足的概念性思維來判斷事物，災難性後果還不能立刻形成某種尖銳的對比，等到這種「尖銳的對比」形成時，恐怕許多「災難性後果」已無可挽回了。
