第一天一整天我們走遍了自己的土地。膠鞋陷進了泥土裡。土地是紅色的，弄髒的雙手染成了紅色，洗手的水流出來的是一攤紅色的稀泥漿。 R 不知是第幾次察看了果園裡的樹木。那都是些老樹，灌木般稠密，繁茂地朝四面八方生長。這樣的樹木肯定不能結出什麼果實。果園一直延伸到森林，延伸到黑黝黝的雲杉牆邊停住。雲杉挺立猶如軍人的隊列。
午後又開始雨雪紛飛。水匯集在泥土地裡，形成一道道細流，一條條小溪，從山上徑直流向房子，滲透進牆裡，消失在牆下的某個地方。我們被不間斷的淙淙聲弄得惴惴不安，舉著蠟燭朝地下室走去。一條湍急的小溪流順著石頭台階流淌，沖刷著石頭地面，流向低處，朝著池塘的方向流走了。我們遽然憬悟，房子是建在河中的！不知是哪個冒失的家伙輕率地把它建在流動的地下水裡，現在已經是束手無策了，一點辦法也沒有。唯一能做到的只是去習慣這永恆的、沉悶的淙淙流水聲，去習慣那不平靜的夢境。…
