早年接觸的考古證據
近幾年來出土的許多文物，有助於肯定中國早年與東南亞的來往關系。在蘇門答臘、爪哇、婆羅洲曾經發現中國漢朝的陪葬陶器。其中在蘇門答臘出土的一件，刻有相當於“公元前45年”的年號【8】。可惜，這些早期陶器的發現，並不能證明中國人親身與當地人接觸，因為這些陶器可能由外國旅客或商賈帶到這些地區的。

在許多有關華人的歷史記載中，也許最鮮為人知的，是華人移居南洋(華人對馬來群島的稱呼) 的故事。近幾年來，隨著馬來西亞(由馬來亞、沙巴[即北婆羅洲]和砂勞越組成的聯合邦) 的成立，無形中激發人們對這個地區，特別是對婆羅洲的興趣。本文的目的，是設法根據可得的資料，編寫成一篇有關華人與婆羅洲接觸的歷史。在第一節裏，筆者打算探索華人最早出現在婆羅洲的蹤跡。一直到公元1850年華人在婆羅洲的發展經過。第二節則敘述1850年以後，華人在婆羅洲所發生的各種事件。…
