語言學校在當時的歐洲如雨後春筍般竄起，雖然教學本身十分單調，工時又冗長，但在那個年紀並不會在意這些。你會花許多時間待在酒吧，輕易結交上朋友，讓人覺得身處一個廣大的人際網路，仿佛能擴張到全世界；隨便就能碰到秘魯或泰國來的人，讓你覺得只要你想，你可以無止盡地縱遊四方，再遠的角落也能靠朋友找份工作謀生。你永遠都會是這個溫暖又無盡的流動教育大家庭的一分子，大夥兒總是舒適地窩在一起，點杯酒，暢談前同事、跟精神病沒兩樣的學校主管，還有怪異的協會成員等等。(石黑一雄《夜曲》 の《或雨或晴 Come Rain or Come Shine》)
