湖北的風很冷。
大葉孫六馭馬而行。向東望去，伊吹山頂的春雪反射著晨靄的微光，染成了藍紫色。
這是慶長六年二月，關原之戰的後一年。
晌午時分，終於來到江州淺井郡速見裏地界。孫六命隨從飛奔到村邊的農家，打聽那人的居處。一個老農出來應道：
“渡邊勘兵衛大人的宅邸嗎？他在此地往東兩裏路外名叫河毛森的地方結廬索居。”
老農上下打量，好像試圖揣測孫六一行的身份，然後又主動發問：…
