6.感情代替了史實,政治掩蓋了真相
對於明清以來出現那麽多關於建文帝的傳說,怎麽解釋呢:就神話或民間傳說形成發展的規律而言,借用胡適先生的話:
凡故事的演變如滾雪球,越滾越大,其實禁不起日光的烘照,史家的考證。
關於建文帝傳說的發生和演變是符合這一規律的。由於建文帝的下落不明,引起了人們的種種猜測和傳說,而傳說不斷擴大不斷豐富,越說越神,越說越圓。…

查繼佐《罪惟錄》的記載中,關於建文帝出亡的不同說法,就有二十三種之多。因為沒有確切證據,作為嚴肅的史學家,查繼佐提出“十六辯”即“十六疑”,對它們一一加以辯駁,全部否定了。
帝子出走何事,而五六十人聞之,後此無一敗:疑一。
鬼門可出,水關何必復導:疑二。
金川既啟,廷臣驚懼不知所出,在外小臣安敢遽入大內:小臣能入而帝不能出:疑三。
兵勢洶洶此何時:而神樂道士惓惓夢中之言,艤舟待命:疑四。…

祝允明《野記》,也有大致相同的記載。郎瑛《七修類稿》則說:建文帝“竟葬西山,樹碑曰‘天下大法師之墓’”。
所謂葬於北京西山,是指今北京阜城門外的海澱區內,據說就在今西三環路內的中國畫研究院裏。院裏的白塔庵塔,就是建文帝安葬後建的衣缽塔。
關於建文帝的下落的說法特別多,幾不勝數。
▲建文帝先隱藏於江蘇吳縣普濟寺,後經姚廣孝幫助,隱藏於穹窿山皇駕庵,死後就葬在穹窿山上。
