如果我們把荷爾德林的詩句改為「……人, 詩性地生存於大地……」, 這可能是現代的最低要求了, 無法「詩性」地生存也就使人在萬物中的地位變得岌岌可危, 人之為人的底線也就被徹底抽離了。
「詩乃是對存在和萬物之本質的創建性命名」, 詩意乃是詩的范疇, 詩意對應的是存在和萬物之本質。每一時代都有其本質。從西方的歷史經驗看, 在康德之前, 雖然在啟蒙運動之前赫拉克勒斯、狄奧尼索斯和耶穌基督這個「三位一體」的英雄和上帝的時代已經受到了動搖, 但只有到了康德在理性上徹底宣告這個時代的結束；而在荷爾德林那裡, 由於「上帝的缺席」而宣告了世界黑夜的來臨。夜晚來臨意味著詩意的產生已經不再是自然而然的事情, 意味著「不再有上帝顯明確定地把人和物聚集在它的周圍, 並且由於這種聚集, 把世界歷史和人在其中的棲留嵌合為一體」, 這就要求黑夜時代的詩人必須從黑夜的「深淵」裡搶救出詩意。在荷爾德林的詩中, 那就是為他終有一死的同類指出一條「歸鄉」的道路,…
