整體而言，洪堡特語言哲學顯然是林著的一大理論樞紐。事實上，看林書的結構，洪堡特就正好像分水嶺一般把全書分為兩大部分：即可再分為「從赫德到洪堡特」，和「從馮特到米德」。其中前者乃循洪堡特回溯其理論之濫觴與訴求，而後者則順洪堡特以觀其理論的後續影響及發展。其間先後論及赫德的「語言起源論」、哈曼對康德及啟蒙理性的「語文學後設批判」、馮特的「語言身體姿態起源論」、卡西勒的「符號形式哲學」、米德從社會心理學的角度提出的「姿態會話」學說和「符號互動論」等。…
