故鄉從前每年的舊歷五月十三是廟會日子，廟會是白天，等到夜里就演驢皮影了。廟會才只一天，驢皮影卻要演上三夜：十一、十二、十三，三夜。影臺子搭在關帝廟前五丈遠的曠場上，臺口正對著山門。這三夜，兩扇朱紅的山門大敞著，使關老爺坐在正殿里一直可以看到影臺支出的影窗上。聽說這驢皮影是用以娛樂神爺們的。神爺們成年到頭盡在替眾生盡護衛之責，怎能不報答報答盛意呢。…

姚廣濱·野臺戲
農村還沒演破產慘劇以前，在我的故鄉，人們最感快樂的時期要算是舊歷每年的正月間。這時田間沒有工作，天然給永遠不知辛苦的農民一個休息的機會，因而人們有工夫探探親，玩玩賭。可是最使人們興奮的卻是或遠或近的村子里演著的野臺戲。所以一臺野臺戲總可以有成千成萬的觀眾。演野臺戲的目的大概一半為酬神，一半為娛樂。而多在正月開演的原因，無非為利用人們正是有閑的機會。
我幼年的時候竟是一個野臺戲的迷戀者。無論距自己的村子多遠，只要聽到那里演戲，一定要求大人同我去看。鄉間的野臺戲確有一種特殊的風味，在其他任何娛樂場中是不能得到的，尤其在都市里。現在我回憶起來，還感到說不出的親切。…
