The new DSM-5 diagnostic criteria for bipolar disorder was recently released, and it has caused a lot of confusion among mental health professionals and the general public. The biggest change in the DSM-5 is that bipolar disorder is now divided into two categories: bipolar I and bipolar II. DSM-5™ Diagnostic Criteria Generalized Anxiety Disorder 300.02 (F41.1) A. Excessive anxiety and worry (apprehensive expectation), occurring more days than not for at least 6 months, about a number of events or activities (such as work or school performance). B. The individual finds it difficult to control the worry. The DSM-5 has a new and specific criteria for anxiety diagnosis. In order to be diagnosed with an anxiety disorder, you must have: A feeling of fear, worry, or unease that is persistent and interferes with daily activities. Avoidance behaviors (e.g., avoiding certain places or situations) established by an acceptable reference standard. The reference standard and diagnostic test are objective or performed and interpreted by different observers. Study results allow calculation of measures of diagnostic accuracy. Class IV Studies not meeting Class I, II, or III criteria, including consensus, expert opinion, or a case report. Moderate: 4-5 symptoms.
