日本畫家葛飾北齋（Katsushika Hokusai，1760－1849），在1999年曾被美國《生活》（Life）雜誌，選為過去一千年最重要的百大事件與人物（The 100 Most Important Events and People of the Past 1,000 Years）第86位。換句話說，他是一千年來最偉大的日本人。
