柳敬亭說書
南京柳麻子，面色黃黑，滿臉長著瘡疤、小疙瘩，行動隨隨便便，身體象木偶一樣呆板。
他善於說書，每一天說一回書，定價一兩銀子。請他的人在十天前送去請帖、定金，約好時間，他經常不得空。南京同時有兩個走紅的人，就是王月生、柳麻子。
我聽他說景陽岡武松打虎，與《水滸傳》的描述大不相同。他描寫刻畫，細致入微，但又補充、刪略得當，並不嘮嘮叨叨。他的吆喝聲有如巨鐘，說到關鍵地方，大呼叫喊，聲音震得房屋像要崩塌一樣。他說武松到酒店買酒，店內沒有人，武松猛然一吼，店中空缸空壇都嗡嗡作響，在一般人不經意的情節細微的地方著力渲染，細致到這個地步。
主人一定要不聲不響地靜靜坐著，集中注意力聽他說，他才開口；稍微看到奴僕附著耳朵小聲講話，聽的人打呵欠伸懶腰、有疲倦的樣子，他就不再說下去，所以要他說書不能勉強。每到半夜，抹乾凈桌子，剪好燈芯，靜靜地用白色杯子送茶給他，他就慢慢地說起來，聲音或快或慢，或輕或重，或斷或續，或高或低，說得入情入理，入筋入骨。…
